New Allergen Safety and Awareness Training for Managers

On August 25, 2017, the State of Illinois passed Public Act 100-0367 which amends the Food Handling Act to require restaurants have at least one certified food service sanitation manager on hand during operating hours who has undergone training that follows nationally recognized industry standards for allergen safety and allergen awareness.

Foodservice Safe will offer ANSI approved allergen training so you will be in compliance. We will offer the food allergen training and exam during some of our public manager certification classes as well as an online course. These will both be implemented before year-end.

All individuals seeking food service sanitation manager certification or food service sanitation manager recertification shall undergo training.

The bill requires training within 30 days after hire and every three years after.

The training and successful passing of the exam must be completed by January 1, 2018. Enforcement will be limited to notification and education only until July 1, 2018.
